The Machine and Vehicle Design (MVD) research group at the University of Oulu is committed to pioneering sustainable innovations in the design of machinery and vehicles.

History:

MVD has its roots in the rich engineering tradition of the University of Oulu, evolving over the years to focus on addressing modern challenges in machine and vehicle design. Their emphasis has shifted towards sustainability and digitalization, reflecting the global trend towards environmentally friendly and technologically advanced solutions.

MVD collaborates with a diverse array of partners categorized into three main groups: Excellence Complementors, Innovation Partners, and Impact Multipliers.



This group includes prestigious academic institutions known for their research and educational excellence. Notable partners include Brunel University London, Imperial College London, University of Tehran, Loughborough University, and others. These universities contribute cutting-edge research, talent, and innovative ideas, helping to advance MVD’s strategic goals.


VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is a leading research institution that collaborates with MVD on cutting-edge technology projects, leveraging its deep expertise in applied research to advance industrial solutions.

Oulu University of Applied Sciences contributes through its strong focus on practical education and research, enabling the development of new technologies and solutions that are closely aligned with industry needs.

Tampere University plays a crucial role in fostering innovation by bringing together academic research and industry collaboration, particularly in areas related to engineering and technology. DIGIBUZZ, a digital innovation hub, supports MVD by providing expertise in digital transformation and advanced data analytics, helping to accelerate the adoption of AI and other emerging technologies.

SIX (Sustainable Industry X), an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable industrial practices, collaborates with MVD to explore and implement innovative solutions that drive sustainability in manufacturing and other industrial sectors.

Sisu Auto, the University of Oulu collaborates with Sisu Auto to develop advanced vehicle technologies for northern conditions, combining research, data-driven tools, and student involvement.

AVL, which provides high-end software tools like AVL Excite, Cruise M, and Fire M for MVD's research.
